Incense holder made of burgundy Rosso Levanto marble and Italian Calacatta marble in the shape of a quatrefoil.
QUADRAFTS SHAPE
The quatrefoil is a decorative shape consisting of four partially overlapping, symmetrical circles of equal diameter. It became a popular motif in Gothic architecture, where it was used in portals and stained glass windows, and also appeared in medieval heraldry, considered a symbol of good fortune. The earliest recorded quatrefoil motif was found in Mexico around 700 BC. It also appeared in the ancient Mayan civilizations, where it represented the underworld, and in Islamic architecture in the Middle East. It likely reached Europe via the Silk Road. It appeared on small and easily transported objects, such as carpets, velvets, and silks, which were brought to Europe as luxury goods.
In Christianity, this symbol has been adopted to represent the four biblical gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, as well as the symbol of the cross. Among Native Americans, the quatrefoil represents the "Four Holy Corners of the Earth"—North, East, South, and West.
When purchasing this product, you choose the shape and composition of the stones, not the specific piece. Each piece is unique. Each element of this incense holder model is crafted from the same blocks of stone, so there are only minor differences between individual pieces.
The incense should be trimmed at the bottom so that it stands upright in the stand. Do not leave burning incense unattended.
